The Kenwood Excelon DMX706S is the double DIN head unit to with if you want Apple Car Play or Android Auto and you don't care about playing CDs or DVDs. Because there is not CD/DVD player, the DMX706S has a larger screen than the DDX396 and the DDX6906S. Kenwood Excelon DDX6906S

The Kenwood Excelon DDX6905 is the double DIN head unit to with if you want Apple Car Play or Android Auto and you want to play CDs or DVDs. Because this unit has a CD/DVD player, the screen is not as big as the DMX706S,. The kenwood Excelon DDX6906S has an AM/FM tuner, a USB port, AUX input, dual camera inputs that allow for both a front camera and a rear camera with parking lines, it is built for iPhone/iPod and works with Android via the USB port, and it has 5V Front/Rear/Sub pre-outs, it is SiriusXM ready, it has everything you might ever want in a radio with the exception of HD Radio and navigation. But, since it has Car Play and Anroid Auto, you can plug your phone in and use Waze or your favorite navigation app and see and hear everything that a navigation enabled unit would give you.

With Apple Car Play and Android Auto, we don't see the need for a navigation based head unit anymore. Instead of spending upwards of $900 and having to manage map updates, it is much easier to simply plug your smart phone into your radio with a USB cable. Apps like Waze, Google Maps, and Apple Maps are so good these days. They are monitoring traffic, tracking other drivers as part of their licensing agreement, and they are the most up to date map files around.

We are not seeing the demand for HD Radio equipped models. With Spotify, Pandora, iHeartRadio, Apple Music, and other music streaming services, you have the ability to listen to virtually any song you want, any time you want. We see much higher demand for SiriusXM and all of these units are SiriusXM ready.

All of these units come with Maestro. Depending on your vehicle, you may need to purchase separate modules to maintain and operate all of your factory controls, but it will vary from vehicle to vehicle.
