Kicker 1968-1972 Buick Skylark Kick Panel Speakers No A/C Pair
Kicker 1968-72 Skylark Kick Panel Speaker - No A/C
If you want to add kick panel speakers to your 1968-1972 Buick Skylark, the Kicker upgrade option is our "Go-to". The CS or KS speakers that come installed in these kick panels deliver the sound quality you expect from a a Kicker product at a price point that is worth the upgrade. These kick panel speakers are made from ABS plastic, install using the factory mounting holes, and come with movable vents that allow you to keep the "fresh-air" functionality of your non-AC vehicle.
The benefit of kick panel speakers is that it provides a better sound stage and the larger speakers will play louder in your 1968-1972 Buick Skylark. The original dash location limits you to 4" speakers. The 6.5" speakers in the kick panels will provide better mid-range response and the larger speakers will play louder, without forcing you to hack up the originality of your vehicle.
There are two speaker options, the Kicker CS Series or the Kicker KS Series. There are four main differences.
- The Tweeter Material
- The Cone Weight
- Recommended Power
The CS speakers come with a PEI dome tweeter, a lighter weight cone, they require less power, and they have an exposed yellow tweeter.
The KS speakers come with a silk dome tweeter, a heaveier cone, they require more power, the tweeter does not visually stand-out as much, and it is behind the grille.
If you are not running an amplifier, go with the CS Series speakers. All speakers will sound better with an amplifier and the CS Series speakers sound great. But, if you have an amplifier or plan on installing an amplifier, the silk dome tweeter and the KS series speakers simply sound better. If you are spending the money on the amplifier, spend the money on the KS series speakers.
We recommend adding both the Wave Breaker pads behind the speakers and adding sound deadening to the backside of the panel. Adding Hushmat Ultra sound deadener adds mass, decreases resonance from the panel moving, and will decrease road noise. The Wave Breaker pads eliminate backwave distortion that occurs when the speaker cone moves, which is especially helpful when installing kick panels because you have a metal surface right behind the speaker. There is no speaker cavity or door panel to absord that energy.**Please Note** - The speaker grille may interfer with your parking brake. They should fit most vehicles without any interference, but after being stepped on for nearly 50 years, your parking brake can wear out and the pedal and mounts may loosen or bend. If the grille pedal does hit the grille, you can adjust the parking brake mount over, away from the kick panel, remove the parking brake if it is not needed, or leave it as is and just don't engage it.
