Description

The Kicker L7R 15" Solo Baric subwoofer handles 900W RMS and and dual 4 ohm voice coils. The L7R is Kicker's most affordable, full-size, square subwoofer and Kicker was the original, and continues to be the leader in square subs. The big advantage a square subwoofer gives you over a round subwoofer is cone area. If you have a 15" round subwoofer, the radius is 7.5". Using the formula for the area of a circle, you get approximately 176.625 square inches. With a 15" square subwoofer, the area is 225 square inches. So, a 15" square subwoofer is bigger than a 15" round subwoofer and will play lower and louder.

When you consider the power handling and the size of these Kicker L7R subwoofer, you see that you get bigger a bigger sub that can handle decent power. The dual 4 ohm voice coil on this subwoofer will allow you to run a single sub at 2 ohm, 2 subwoofers at 1 ohms, 3 subwoofers at 2.6 ohms, and 4 subwoofers at 2 ohms.

If you are only running a single subwoofer, we typically recommend the 2 Ohm DVC version. It will allow you to wire your subwoofer so that your amp sees a 2 ohm load. Yes, you don't get as much power as you do at 1 ohm, but your subwoofer should sound better, it is easier on the amplifier, and it should extend the life of your stereo system.

For amplifiers we recommend the CX800.1 or KX800.1 at a minimum for 1 subwoofer. Typically, we recommend the CX1200.1 or the KX1200.1 because we would rather have more power and keep the gain down, than max out the gain on a smaller amplifier. If you are running 2 subs, go with the KX1600.1 or the CX1800.1. If you are running 3 subwoofers, go with the KX2400.1, and if you are running 4 of these, get multiple amplifiers.

What is the difference between the L7R and the L7S?
The difference between the L7S and the L7R is the basket material and weight. The L7R uses a steel basket and the L7S uses an aluminum basket. The aluminum in the L7S dissipates heat better than steel, therefore the L7S can handle more power. Outside of the basket, they are virtually the same subwoofer. One has red thread, the other has blue.
